S.A.F.E. & Senior S.A.F.E.

Education as Prevention

The Hanson Fire Department believes that the best way to protect our community is through education. Our Public Education Division is dedicated to reaching residents of all ages—providing the knowledge, skills, and awareness needed to prevent emergencies before they happen.

Through our S.A.F.E. (Student Awareness of Fire Education) and Senior SAFE programs, we maintain an active presence in our schools and community centers throughout the year.

Student Awareness (S.A.F.E.)

Our firefighters are a familiar sight in Hanson’s schools. We work closely with the school district to foster a culture of safety from a young age.

  • Classroom Visits: We regularly visit classrooms to teach age-appropriate fire safety lessons, such as “Stop, Drop, and Roll,” exit planning, and how to dial 911.

  • Mandated Fire Drills: Throughout the school year, our department conducts and evaluates state-mandated fire drills. These exercises ensure that students and staff know exactly how to evacuate quickly and calmly in the event of an actual emergency.

  • Youth Fire Safety Initiatives: We engage in ongoing youth outreach to discourage dangerous behaviors and promote fire responsibility.

Senior SAFE Program

Our commitment to safety extends to our older residents, who face unique risks in the home. We partner with the Hanson Senior Center to provide targeted education and support.

  • Senior Center Visits: Our team regularly visits the Senior Center to discuss relevant safety topics, answer questions about home hazards, and build relationships with our senior community.

  • Fall Prevention: A major focus of our Senior SAFE program is fall prevention. We provide tips and strategies to help seniors identify tripping hazards, secure their homes, and maintain their independence safely.

  • Lock-Box Program: Providing a Fire Department owner lock box on the property for easy emergency access.
  • CPR & First Aid Classes: We offer CPR training to the public, empowering residents to respond effectively during cardiac emergencies. (Please contact us for the current class schedule).
